Frank Lampard made a big call by dropping first choice goalkeeper Kepa Arizaballaga for Willy Caballero. The Spaniard has been criticised at times this season and isn't playing like a 'keeper who cost a world record fee. Brendan Rodgers was able to bring Jamie Vardy back into the starting XI with Kelechi Iheanacho back onto the bench.
This game felt like it was an early kick off as both sides started as if they were still asleep. There were not shots for around 20 minutes although Tammy Abraham should've had done better from around the six yard box as he failed to make contact with an excellent Reece James cross. Leicester had started poorly, with their passing bringing problems upon themselves, but they eventually found their rhythm.
The game began to open up and Leicester began creating chances. Ricardo Pereira had a powerful drive blocked and, once they started pressing more intensely, Leicester won the ball high up the pitch and Vardy was prevented by Caballero, who vindicated Lampard's decision.
Chelsea had a penalty appeal via Caglar Soyuncu but there wasn't enough contact for VAR to overturn the original decision. Pedro attempted to chip Kasper Schmeichel but the effort was too central and easy for the Dane to deal with. Ben Chilwell then had a decent shot over the bar and Jonny Evans expertly got down low to block Mason Mount's goalbound effort. Hamza Choudhury nodded wide from a corner as the sides couldn't be separated at the break.
Leicester were looking most likely to score but straight after half time Chelsea took the lead. From a corner, Antonio Rudiger did what Choudhury couldn't do and guided a header past Schmeichel. Lampard had been very open his criticism about his team's inability to be ruthless when leading, so how would Chelsea go on from here? About as bad as it could be.
Going one down did not affect Leicester as they continued to play with more confidence and threat than their opponents. The high press against caught Chelsea out and, unlike Vardy, Harvey Barnes punished them with a deflected effort that span into the net. No other real chances materialised until Chilwell got down the left and clipped a ball passed everyone. Caballero, at 38 years of age, came rushing off his line but Pereira got to the ball first, recycled it and Chilwell was on hand to score.
Leicester had turned the game around and Youri Tielemans forced Caballero into a great save. If a team was to score the next goal, it would be Leicester but, from another set piece, a towering header from Rudiger got an equaliser for Chelsea. They may have gone down easily but it showed resilience from Chelsea to get level.
Both sides didn't try to settle for a point and Leicester came closest to regaining the lead. Jonny Evans got free in the box and somehow headed wide - it looked easier to score than miss. Leicester, then, unleashed a quick counter attack as Ayoze Perez found Vardy and his early cross to Barnes beat Caballero but agonisingly drifted past the post and wide.
Neither could find a winner in the end as Leicester were denied a penalty as Rudiger was adjudged to have handled accidentally. Leicester will be disappointed not to have won the fixture and Chelsea having been leading and then losing to have drawn, will be pleasing for Lampard.
Leicester remain 8 points ahead of Chelsea and are now 15 points ahead of Manchester United in 5th place.
