Below is a preview and prediction about this season's Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool
The side Liverpool put out tonight will surely be the youngest in the club's history, as Club World Cup commitments mean all senior players are in Qatar with Jurgen Klopp not able to manage both matches. The honour goes to Neil Critchley but there is no possible way Aston Villa can't win this. Dean Smith doesn't even have to put out a full strength team as a second string side should be enough to beat Liverpool's youngsters. Despite being an all-Premier League affair, this seems like the most straightforward tie.
Verdict - Aston Villa
Everton vs Leicester City
The arrival of Carlo Ancelotti to Goodison is very close but he won't be in charge come Wednesday for this tie. Duncan Ferguson has instilled a better attitude from the Everton players and has seen the Toffees not lose in his two games as manager. Leicester may have drawn to Norwich last time out but they are very much the better side between the two of them. It would be a great opportunity for both sides to win a competition should they progress so Rodgers and Ferguson should name their best team to do so. Leicester have that little bit extra that Everton don't.
Verdict - Leicester City
Oxford United vs Manchester City
Oxford are on a terrific run of form but that won't be enough to stop Manchester City. Guardiola's team have been ruthless in the cup competitions against lower opposition, scoring loads of goals while the other side barely manage one shot. It should be a tougher test for City at Oxford than many are making out but there will be no upset here.
Verdict - Manchester City
Manchester United vs Colchester United
Colchester have beaten Premier League opposition to reach this stage - which is a remarkable achievement for them and also Oxford - but home advantage should see Manchester United through. They showed on Sunday why many remain unconvinced by Solskjaer but the gulf in quality will be enough for United to go through to the semi-finals.
Verdict - Manchester United
