The Big Match Previewed - Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur

For the second week running, Tottenham feature on 'The Big Match' and will be hoping to do a lot better than their 2-1 loss to Liverpool. Everton will represent an easier task than their Merseyside rivals but as Tottenham have shown this season, nothing is as easy as it seems.

These two teams had a lot expected of them before the start of the season. Tottenham were meant to kick on from reaching the Champions League final and reach new heights while Everton's spending had many thinking they could challenge for the Top 6. It couldn't have gone more wrong. Tottenham are 13th and Everton are 17th.

Spurs have suffered with many players wanting out and the board not sanctioning it. Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld all wanted to leave in the summer but are still there. It would have been wise to sell them as if you have players who want to leave, their 100% effort is never guaranteed as their minds are elsewhere. Those three have also not performed as well as they have done in previous seasons and has increased the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino.

Since the arrival of Farhad Moshiri as owner, Everton have spent over £400 million to finish 7th, 8th and 8th again. To spend that amount of money and never break into the Top 6 shows poor recruitment in players and managers. Marco Silva is on thin ice and when you compare Everton to Leicester, it shows what can happen when a board and manager work in tandem effectively. Everton should be the club coming 7th and fighting to get in the Top 6, not trying to stay up.

Both have centre back issues with Everton's Yerry Mina and Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen doubts ahead of the match. Bernard is out and Spurs will have to deal without Danny Rose and Erik Lamela. Pochettino reverted back to the old boys against Liverpool and it wasn't very successful. With certain injuries new cropping up, he may have to play the others that want to be at the club that worked against Red Star Belgrade.

This fixture last season produced a thrilling 6-2 win for Spurs. At that time, Tottenham were 3rd, six points off leader Liverpool, and Everton were down in 11th. I can't see such an entertaining contest repeating itself as both teams will want to get a win, potentially making for a very caution encounter.

Tottenham to win 2-0. Kane and Son to score.
