The Big Match Revisited - Liverpool vs Arsenal

Liverpool ended up 3-1 winners against Arsenal, as I predicted, and that scoreline was thoroughly deserved.

The hosts started very well and threatened but did not get a goal. Firmino almost connected with a low Robertson cross but it was Arsenal who went close twice in the first half. Nicolas Pepe, making his first start, curled an effort just wide and missed an easy opportunity when one-on-one against Adrian.

Liverpool took the lead through a corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold (another assist for him) which found a towering Joel Matip to head home. That goal was what Liverpool warranted after their pressure.

Early in the second half, Mo Salah had his shirt pulled in the box by David Luiz and the Egyptian put his penalty straight into the top corner. It was no surprise that Luiz made a defensive error and Liverpool were 2-0 up.

The Reds stepped it up again and their third goal was stupendous. Fabinho found Salah who slipped his marker with a great turn of pace and he calmly slotted home his second. Liverpool were out of sight and there was nothing Arsenal did or could do about it.

Substitute Lucas Torreira got a late consolation for Arsenal but it was too late to change the game. A 3-1 defeat adds to massive list of big away games the Gunners have underperformed in in the past four years.
