2019 UEFA Super Cup Preview

Champions League holders Liverpool and Europa League winners Chelsea meet in Istanbul tonight to contest the Super Cup and both sides come into this match on the back of very different opening matches.

Liverpool easily won against Norwich 4-1 thanks to goals from Salah, van Dijk, Origi and an own goal. There were one or two questions over the way Norwich were able to find space and threaten their defence but it is only the start of the season and Liverpool will get better with every game.

Naby Keita is a doubt for Klopp and Lovren will definitely miss the match through "illness" (having been heavily linked to Roma). Sadio Mane is set to make his full return to the Liverpool side after featuring from the bench against Norwich.

Frank Lampard's Chelsea got off to the worst possible start by losing 4-0 to Manchester United. Their attacking play was not too bad but defensively they were atrocious, particularly Kurt Zouma. Lampard has a free pass this year in terms of results but if Chelsea do not improve quickly, then they may fall out of the Top 6.

Kurt Zouma had a poor match against United and could be dropped for Fikayo Tomori or Antonio Rudiger. N'Golo Kante, like Keita, is a doubt and may not be risked. Willian could also make a return to the bench.

This has a Liverpool win written all over it. They have a better defence, midfield and attack than Chelsea. Liverpool can welcome back a key attacker (Mane) but Chelsea may be without their most important defensive midfielder (Kante) who needs to protect their vulnerable defence.

Liverpool to win 3-1.
