The uninspiring Claude Puel has been sacked from Leicester City and - to be honest - the Frenchman seemed gone for months. He dealed amicably with the aftermath of popular owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha but he was never able to warm himself to the fans.
His uncharismatic nature and passive, possession football was not to the taste of the Leicester faithful. It was odd, though, that Leicester performed well against the better teams - beating Manchester City and Chelsea plus drawing to Liverpool - but underperformed against the sides the Foxes should have beaten - losses to Cardiff and Southampton standing out as well as to Newport in the FA Cup.
What also angered many fans was his disrespect of domestic cups. In the Carabao Cup quarter-final, he rotated against a weaker Manchester City side and lost on penalties and suffered the ignominy of losing to Newport in the FA Cup. Mid table clubs should all target a cup run to Wembley, but Puel thought otherwise.
So who do Leicester turn to? Brendan Rodgers. Ex-Liverpool manager now Celtic hero, the Bhoys are on course to secure a treble treble under the Northern Irishman. With that in mind, it would surely make sense for Rodgers to take over at Leicester in the summer and see out the season in Scotland.
Rodgers has always seen himself as a Premier League manager. His Liverpool reign ended in embarrassment so Celtic was merely a (successful) stop gap on Rodgers' recovery to rebuild his reputation - which he's done. It has now come to the point where he has achieved all he can at Celtic as European success is not on the cards, and Leicester represents a new challenge.
Rodgers does have a lot of good aspects that make him suited to Leicester and their fanbase. Firstly, he has implemented an attacking focus at Liverpool and Celtic which is what the Leicester fans want. Secondly, Rodgers is very good at working with young players and Leicester have a strong young contingent (Barnes, Chilwell, Choudhury, Gray, Iheanacho and Maddison) which should all develop under Rodgers' guidance.
Ultimately, Rodgers needs a new challenge. Leicester are a club with much more financial power than Celtic which is enticing. He will return to the Premier League a better and stronger manager which can only be good news for Leicester fans, not for Celtic.
